Gainesville Hospital District
Gainesville Hospital District owns and operates the general acute care facility known as North Texas Medical Center("NTMC"). NTMC is a 60-bed acute care hospital situated on 52 acres located within the city limits of Gainesville, Texas. Gainesville is located in North Texas, approximately 60 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, five miles south of the Texas-Oklahoma border. Gainesville is the county seat of Cooke County.

The District represents approximately two-thirds of the land mass of Cooke County, and the majority of its population. Key communities which make up the Gainesville Hospital District include: Gainesville, Lake Kiowa, Valley View, Era, Callisburg, Lindsay, Sivells Bend and Walnut Bend. The Muenster Hospital District, served by Muenster Memorial Hospital, covers the western one-third of the county.

The District levies an ad valorem tax on real property located within the boundaries of the District. Tax revenue is limited for the payment of bond debt and for indigent care.

SERVICE AREA
The service area of North Texas Medical Center is predominantly Cooke County, with additional patients seen from eastern Montague County, western Grayson County, northern Denton County and southern Love County, Oklahoma.

Cooke County has an area of 874 square miles. A large portion of the county is classified as rural. Gainesville, the county seat, includes 46% of the county's population. The county's economy is primarily based on retail, manufacturing and agriculture. Industries in the Cooke County area are diversified and include a major manufacturer of commercial airplane seats, high density polyethylene pipe, powder paint, machine shop cutting tools and a transportation and service center. Gainesville is home to North Central Texas College, a two-year institution of higher learning. Established in 1924, NCTC is one of the fastest growing colleges in the state.

Cooke County is one hour north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and immediately north and adjacent to Denton County, currently one of the hottest development areas in Texas. Gainesville is located at the intersection of Interstate 35, a NAFTA highway, and U.S. Highway 82, a major east/west thoroughfare.

The county is experiencing significant growth, especially in the southern section. From 1990 to 1999, a population percent change of 8.5% was noted. In the next five years, the population in the county is expected to increase by another 6 to 7 percent.
