Company Profile
Company Overview
With a proud history of more than six decades, Kaiser Permanente is the country’s largest not-for-profit health maintenance organization with approximately $53 billion in annual revenue. Founded in 1945, the company has grown from a 12-bed hospital into a leading integrated health delivery system that serves more than 9 million members in eight states and the District of Columbia. Today, Kaiser Permanente is nationally and internationally recognized for providing innovative, high-quality, evidence-based healthcare through the advantages of its integrated insurance and care delivery infrastructure. More than 190,000 healthcare professionals, nurses and physicians serve the healthcare needs of members and communities in seven Kaiser Permanente Regions covering Northern California, Southern California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Northwest (Oregon and Washington), and Mid-Atlantic States (Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia). Kaiser Permanente health plan members receive their care primarily through Kaiser Permanente-owned and operated hospitals and medical clinics, which are staffed by roughly 17,000 physicians of the Permanente Medical Groups. To augment our coverage, we provide some of our services through contracted networks of community hospitals, physicians and other providers.
Our seven Regions are comprised of separate but closely cooperating organizations:
•Kaiser Foundation Health Plans (KFHPs): Non-profit, public-benefit corporations that contract with individuals and groups to provide HMO and other health benefit plans. KFHPs contract with Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the Permanente Medical Groups to provide services.
•Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH): A non-profit, public-benefit corporation that owns and operates hospitals in California, Oregon, and Hawaii; owns outpatient facilities in the aforementioned states and Colorado; provides or arranges hospital services; and sponsors charitable, educational and research activities.
•Permanente Medical Groups (PMGs): Partnerships or professional corporations of physicians, with one in each Kaiser Permanente Region. The PMGs are responsible for providing and arranging all medical care and services in each of our Regions.
