Deaconess Associations, Inc. (DAI) began as Deaconess Hospital of Cincinnati, an acute care facility founded in 1888. DAI was formed in 1986 to provide a diversified portfolio of healthcare services. Today, the organization has assets of $400 million. DAI is classified as tax-exempt. The organization is independent and has no affiliation with other healthcare systems.
DAI serves as the parent corporation of:
• Deaconess Long Term Care (DLTC) – owns independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in Ohio and Kansas.
• Deaconess Health Care Services – holding company for not-for-profit health care companies/services.
• Deaconess Enterprises – holding company for for-profit health care companies/services.
• Deaconess Connections – holding company for DAI’s real estate assets.
• Deaconess Diagnostic – independent diagnostic testing facility.
• Deaconess Associations Foundation – fund development arm of DAI. Coordinates, supports and raises funds for DAI’s not-for-profit operations and healthcare improvement activities in the community.
• The Heimlich Institute – provides educational and research support in the healthcare arena.
The Deaconess Foundation identifies worthy community causes that can improve community resources and create avenues for satisfying unmet healthcare needs. The Foundation currently manages a transportation network for seniors and the sight impaired in the tristate area and an in-home medical monitoring system, supports a school nurse program in the Greater Cincinnati public school system, and networks with other local providers in helping seniors maintain independent lifestyles.
Over the past two years, DAI and the Heimlich Institute have funded major grants to the Hoxworth blood center aimed at cell research. The Institute is also coordinating and financing an educational program for junior high students on the Heimlich maneuver.
DAI has a rich history of providing healthcare services throughout the country. In response to today’s challenging healthcare environment, DAI is investing its expertise and resources in creating a delivery model that will fundamentally inspire continuity of care, refine efficiency and reduce costs.
