Company Overview
From Alaska to Arizona, Banner Health’s dedicated medical professionals are fulfilling our mission of providing excellent patient care to thousands of people in need through hospital care, home care, hospice care, long-term care, nursing registries, surgery centers, laboratories and rehabilitation services. Banner Health is the leading nonprofit provider of hospital services in all the communities we serve. Our Western Region facilities serve a number of rural areas -- many are the only inpatient facilities available within the community.
Based in Phoenix, Ariz., Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country. Our valued workforce includes more than 35,000 employees, making us one of the country’s largest employers as well. In fact, Banner Health is a leading nonprofit employer in every community we serve. In our Arizona Region alone, we employ approximately 20,000, making us the state’s second largest private employer, and we are one of the largest employers in northern Colorado.
At Banner Health, we believe fully engaged employees are the foundation of providing excellent patient care. We value diversity and offer excellent career opportunities with great benefits for those looking to make a difference in the communities we serve.
Company History
Banner Health was created through the merger of nonprofits Samaritan Health System and Lutheran Health Systems in 1999.
In 2005, Banner opened its first brand-new hospital, Banner Estrella Medical Center, one of the country’s first “paperless’’ hospitals. It was built with state-of-the-art technology in electronic medical records to reduce and eliminate medical errors.
In 2007, we opened Banner Gateway Medical Center that incorporate state-of-the-art technology and award-winning design.
We reinvested in our other facilities: a 200-bed patient tower at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. There have been major renovations at North Colorado Medical Center, McKee Medical Center, Platte County Memorial Hospital and Community Hospital.
Some of our growth has been fueled by record-setting donations. Cardon's Children's Medical Center received a $10 million gift from the Cardon family. Frank and Gloria Walsh gave $8.8 million to build the David Walsh Cancer Center on the Sterling Regional MedCenter campus.
What's been constant through the past decade is the dedication and commitment of employees, volunteers and our physician partners. This is our legacy and the reason our future looks so bright.
