At Houston Methodist, the Physician Compensation Analyst position is responsible for the collection and analysis of complex data to develop an accurate assessment of financial performance of physician practices. The analyst prepares and maintains related reports. The analyst reports highlights of performance issues, identifies problems and researches solutions. The Physician Compensation Analyst works collaboratively with teams and may serve as a liaison with Information Technology as needed.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Job responsibilities labeled EF capture those duties that are essential functions of the job.


PEOPLE – 20%

  1. Advises various levels of management on effective use of Physician Compensation program.
  2. Provides advice and guidance to senior leadership regarding structures, models, programs and processes.
  3. Works collaboratively with teams and may serve as a liaison with Information Technology as needed.


SERVICE - 20%

  1. Assists in the development, design and administration of compensation programs for physicians in the Houston Methodist Physician Organization.
  2. Assists in the administration of quarterly physician compensation process and related reporting, documentation, and analyses.
  3. Conducts market pay assessments of individual jobs and/or medical practice groups, using available competitive market data resources, internal equity comparisons and professional knowledge/experience.


QUALITY/SAFETY - 30%

  1. Ensures provider compensation models and practices are effective, well understood, market competitive, compliant with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, and aligned with Houston Methodist Physician Organization physician compensation philosophy and with strategic objectives.
  2. Ensures the physician productivity databases are monitored and there is ongoing maintenance of the database.


FINANCE - 20%

  1. Prepares cost analysis associated with physician compensation and physician compensation plans.
  2. Reviews market data reports and compiles market blended analysis for the determination of fair market-based compensation and productivity.


GROWTH/INNOVATION - 10%

  1. Highlights performance issues, identifies problems and researches solutions and makes recommendations to management for continuous improvement.
  2. Maintains working knowledge of physician compensation methodologies and affecting government regulations, as applicable.
  3. Proactively manages own career development, Completes My Development Plan (MDP)

Qualifications:

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

o Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance, or accounting

o Master’s Degree preferred


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

o Three years of financial or compensation analysis experience; experience supporting compensation design plans, and costing (employee or physician) and data analytics

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

o Certification from a relevant professional organization preferred, i.e.; Certified Healthcare Finance Professional (CHFP), Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

o Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.

o Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

o Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

o High proficiency skills in Microsoft Excel, compensation management software and financial systems. Also moderate PowerPoint skills.

o Advanced critical thinking, analytical skills and creative problem solving and ability to define a variety of approaches to business problems.

o Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex information.

o Strong project management skills.

o Strong statistical analysis skills.
