EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
HARTZ Search invites you to explore an exciting opportunity for the Confidential EVP, Chief Financial Officer. The new CFO will provide strategic and operational leadership over the financial management of Health System Enterprise. In partnership with the executive leadership team, will establish strategic financial, operational, clinical, and administrative goals and policies for the system. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working and influencing effectively in a highly matrixed and relationship-driven culture. Our client is seeking a dynamic financial executive to collaborate with the CEO and the executive leadership team to set enterprise-wide strategy, define the financial and non-financial objectives of individual entities and areas, and create a climate of accountability. The ideal candidate will possess skills in forecasting, evaluating investment strategies, and setting the course for diversifying revenue, Mergers & Acquisitions, utilizing technology and analytics to enhance and support decision-making capabilities in a competitive and fast-changing financial uncertainty with reimbursements and funding. A strategic and operationally focused approach to financial decision-making is required to ensure consumer-centric care is delivered to the highest quality, with access for all patients supported by an integrated care delivery model.
Health System comprises hospital campuses, research centers, a college of health sciences, a school of nursing, and a health plan serving more than three million residents. There are approximately 26,500 employees, including over 1,700 employed physicians, all of whom share a commitment to quality healthcare.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Ensure that the drive to high quality patient care in a safe environment is paramount.
- Be responsible for the short- and long-term financial health of Health System.
- Lead the strategic financial planning for the system’s multi-year plan, annual budget, and forecasting; determine and set capital structure.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships.
- Act as a liaison to align financial strategies, promote transparency, share critical information, and support enterprise-wide financial goals through consistent engagement and mutual accountability across all constituents.
- Recommend to leadership strategy for strengthening the enterprise through acquisition or divestment.
- Oversee and support the full range of health care financial functions including financial planning, reporting, and analysis; accounting services; revenue cycle; mergers and acquisitions; strategic planning and business development; and supply chain.
- Ensure that the operational and capital budgets are aligned with the institution’s strategies and goals.
- Develop and implement procedures, processes, and disciplines fundamental to maintaining a solid and reliable high quality and high control environment; cultivate an environment of collaboration, quality, responsibility, and accountability.
- Be responsible for the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information provided to internal and external parties.
- Provide the professional leadership necessary to continue to enhance the best practices division, with superior customer service and strong relationships at all levels.
- Mentor and develop employees, including performance management and coaching.
- Drive a culture of transparency and collaboration.
- Facilitate the use of key performance indicators and metrics and drive the commitment to data-driven decision- making.
- Establish and support programs to address accreditation needs, and be accountable for ensuring appropriate Federal, State, and local regulatory agencies' requirements are met within the assigned areas of accountability.
- Maintains excellent working relations with external constituents. Examples may include banking institutions, bond rating agencies, governmental leaders, external auditors, and other key external peers involved in financial matters.
- Works closely with investment bankers, underwriters and consultants to review, develop and implement required external bond financing for Health System Authority.
- Develop systems and reports required to meet informational requests, optimize credit rating, develop and implement appropriate covenants, and establish sinking fund and other mechanisms to ensure repayment.

- Support an effective communications system that interfaces with the medical staff and other Health System departments and facilities to ensure total quality patient care.
ROLE DETAILS:
- EVP, CFO, reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Health System
- Direct Reports: 9 / Gross Revenue: $7B+
- Shared Services provided by corporate: Tax, Treasury, Investment & Enterprise Management
- Ability to understand, and optimize value-based care performance
- Lead, enhance and drive performance in Strategy, Revenue Cycle, Cost Management, Revenue Diversification in a complex, and fast paced environment
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in business or related field
- Certified Public Accountant
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years related work experience in an executive level, managerial capacity. Specific examples include, but not limited to:
- Healthcare executive leadership – proven success as a senior leader in roles of expanding scope and scale in complex and high-achieving healthcare organizations. Direct experience with an integrated health plan and partnering with payers is desired
- Business and Financial Management – clear understanding of the current operational and financial challenges and opportunities in healthcare, with demonstrated ability to manage P&L and revenue/cost drivers.
- Value based care – experience leading or facilitating the transition from volume to value-based care in a healthcare enterprise. Knowledge of reimbursement models, managing risk, and healthcare policy.
- People and Culture - accomplished people leader with demonstrated success in cultivating an inclusive organizational culture. Demonstrated success in attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding talent as well as building and motivating high performing teams.\
- Strong Physician Relations – accomplished leader who collaborates well with a multi-disciplinary leadership and executive team members in an integrated delivery network.
