The Opportunity:
Mercy Cedar Rapids seeks a dynamic, distinguished, and strategic executive to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mercy Cedar Rapids is a $415M+ net revenue, independent, faith-based, community-governed, not-for-profit hospital and the only Magnet®-designated facility in its seven-county service area. The Position:
This position is accountable for guiding the financial strategy, stewardship, and operational excellence of Mercy’s complex financial ecosystem and owning the results to advance its mission. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) functions as a strategic partner to the President & CEO and advises/supports the Executive Team, Board of Trustees, and Mercy Management Team to ensure the achievement of Mercy’s strategic initiatives and short/long-term financial goals. The CFO oversees financial operations across both non-profit and for-profit entities, ensuring alignment with Mercy’s faith-based mission and compliance with all regulatory and ethical standards. In addition, the CFO serves as executive liaison to the Finance, Investment, and Planning Committees of the Board of Trustees, and regularly interacts directly with the full Board and its other Board committees.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business required
- Master’s degree in finance, health administration or MBA preferred
- Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred
- Continuing professional education (CPE in healthcare finance and related areas of study) required
- A minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible and successful health care financial leadership experience in complex healthcare settings required.
- A minimum of six years of experience as CFO with responsibility in a large multi-service health care organization with both non-profit and for-profit operating entities required. Successful experience in preparing high-level financial reporting documentation, budgeting information, and financial projections to Boards and Committees of a large health care organization required.
- Strong evidence of previously successful results in developing and directing staff, in consistently evaluating their performance, and providing leadership for their ongoing professional growth required.
